Privacy Policy for Yoly (Android)
Effective date: 31 October 2026
App name: Yoly Package name: com.kirsulab.yoly Platform: Android Publisher: KirsuLab LLC Contact: hello@kirsulab.com
Yoly is a reader for FB2, EPUB, TXT and PDF books. It has no account, no advertising and no server of its own. This policy explains, plainly, what the app keeps on your phone and what little leaves it.
1. The short version
Nothing you read, highlight or write in Yoly is sent to KirsuLab or to anyone else. The app sends two kinds of technical information to Google Firebase on our behalf: anonymous usage counts (which features are used, for example that a book of a given format was opened) and crash reports when the app stops working. Neither contains your name, your books or your notes.
2. Your books and notes
- Books you open in Yoly, along with your reading position, bookmarks, highlights, notes, shelves, collections and reading statistics, are stored in the app's private storage on your phone.
- A library copy you save ("Save Library Copy") is a file you choose where to keep, for example in your Google Drive. KirsuLab does not receive it.
- Android's own backup may include the app's settings and library index as part of your device backup, under Google's Privacy Policy.
- The home screen widget reads the book you are reading from the app's own storage on the same device.
- Fonts you add to Yoly stay on your device.
3. Reading aloud
Read aloud uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your phone. The text is spoken on your device, and Yoly does not record or save the audio.
4. Free book catalogs
Yoly can browse two public catalogs of free books: Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks. When you open a catalog, search it or download a book, Yoly connects directly to that website, which sees the request like any web visit (for example your IP address and the search words). These sites have their own privacy policies.
If you are a member of the Standard Ebooks Patrons Circle and sign in, your email address is kept in the app's private storage on your device and is sent only to standardebooks.org. Signing out removes it.
5. Usage statistics and crash reports
The app uses two Google Firebase services.
5.1 Firebase Analytics
Collected automatically: device model, operating system version, screen size, language, approximate country derived from the IP address, app version, and an anonymous app instance identifier. In-app events are counts only: book_import and book_open with the book's format (FB2, EPUB, TXT or PDF), read_aloud_start and catalog_download. No event contains a title, an author, a line of text or anything that identifies you.
5.2 Firebase Crashlytics
Collected only when the app crashes: the stack trace of the crash, device model, operating system version, app version and free memory at the time. Crash reports help us fix bugs and contain no personal information.
Both services are provided by Google and described in Google's Privacy Policy. The data is encrypted in transit. KirsuLab keeps it only in aggregate and does not combine it with anything else.
6. Information we do not collect
- We do not ask for your name, email address, or any account with KirsuLab.
- We do not show advertising and do not use advertising identifiers.
- We do not access, transmit, or store the contents of your books or notes.
- Yoly does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts or location. Reading a book or a photo you pick for a cover uses the system picker and only the file you choose.
7. Network connections
Yoly does not connect to KirsuLab servers, and has no servers to connect to. The only network activity is the catalogs described in Section 4 and the Firebase services described in Section 5.
8. Data retention and deletion
Deleting a book in Yoly removes it from the app. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the phone. Analytics data is held by Google Firebase for up to 14 months and crash reports for 90 days; because it is anonymous, we cannot link it to you and cannot delete it on request.
9. Children
Yoly is a general-purpose reader and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
10. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page with a new effective date.
